About the browser preview
This is an invitation-only, online edition of Page Light. Access is a beta invitation, not a store purchase or a promise of permanent free access.
Your reading data
Settings, collections, history and reading positions stay in this browser, separated by your signed-in account. Signing in does not sync them between devices. Export reading data before clearing website data, changing devices or moving to the iPhone app. Downloads of article contents and images are not included in backups.
Remembering your phone
The personal reader automatically remembers the owner's browser after a successful sign-in. It keeps working when you move between Wi-Fi and mobile data, without another email code. The saved sign-in lasts a year and renews as you use the reader. Signing out forgets this browser. You can name or forget saved browsers on the Saved browsers page. Clearing website data, using private browsing or removing account access can require a new sign-in.
Keep your phone protected with its screen lock. This saved sign-in grants access to this reader; it does not sync reading data or sign you in to other apps.
Sign-in and privacy
Clerk processes your email address, verification and authentication cookies to manage access. Page Light checks whether your account is approved; reading history and searches are not sent to Clerk. A saved sign-in uses a secure browser cookie; only its verification hash is stored privately with your Clerk account. Hosting requests are handled by Vercel. Searches, articles and approved images come directly from Wikimedia. Page Light adds no advertising or analytics.
Signing out retains your local backup data for your next sign-in. A shared device's owner can inspect its browser storage; use your own device for private reading. Browser storage may be cleared by the system.
On an iPhone
While signed in to the reader in Safari, open Share, then Add to Home Screen. Turn on Open as Web App if offered, then launch Page Light from its Home Screen icon to read without Safari’s address bar. A normal browser tab controls its own address bar; Page Light cannot hide it. Safari and the Home Screen version can have separate sign-ins and reading data. Open each once while signed in to remember it; export and import a backup to move reading data. An Internet connection is required; bookmarks are not offline downloads.
Access and support
Access may be withdrawn during testing. Online server checks cache an approval for at most 15 seconds. An open visible reader checks periodically and locks on failed checks; background pages lock and recheck when resumed. Data you already downloaded cannot be remotely recalled.
